Collaborative Funds & Grantmaking

MSC builds capacity within the philanthropic sector to redesign extractive systems, shift grantmaking practices, and equitably redistribute resources to frontline communities. Centering communities first, we collaborate with philanthropists, foundations, and corporate social responsibility leaders to shift power and wealth from foundations, boards, and investors to those leading on the frontlines of a Just Transition through passthrough and participatory grantmaking initiatives, pooled funds, community-advised loan and equity funds, mutual aid networks, and donor collaboratives.

Collaborative Funds

MSC partners with resource holders to pool capital for purpose-restricted funding initiatives in service of advancing more democratic solutions within the sector. This allows both individual and institutional wealth holders to redistribute power and resources through pooled funds, community-advised loan and equity funds, mutual aid networks, and donor collaboratives to leverage cash assets to those working on the frontlines.

Grantmaking

MSC partners with institutional and government funding agencies to design and implement participatory processes for wealth and resource redistribution. Rooted in the belief that those closest to the problem should be central in crafting the solutions that govern their lives, MSC champions passthrough and participatory grantmaking initiatives that cede decision-making power to grassroots and frontline communities in determining the models, methods, and priorities of the initiative.
