Rooted in the Xhosa language, Ubuntu recognizes the intrinsic interdependence between ourselves and humanity as a whole. It is this guiding principle that lies at the heart of the 3rd Annual Rise & Remember celebration, happening from May 25-27, 2023, at the George Floyd Global Memorial (GFGM) and the vibrant community of George Floyd Square in Minneapolis.⠀

Tomorrow marks three years since George Floyd became yet another hashtag, yet another stark reminder of the deep rooted systemic injustice and public lynching perpetrated by the police. It is crucial that we come together, stronger than ever, to honor his memory and work towards meaningful change.⠀

Ubuntu challenges the Western notions of individualism and elevates the power of collectivism. By placing people over profit, community over individualism, and collective power over individual power, Ubuntu propels us towards a future defined by liberation, equity, and justice for all. ❤️🌍⠀

📆 Today marks the anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision on May 17, 1954, which paved the way for integration and equal educational opportunities for all. However, the struggle for educational equity and dismantling systemic segregation in schools continues and requires the collective efforts of every generation. Did you know that over half of the nation's schoolchildren are in racially concentrated districts, and school districts are often segregated by income? This nexus of racial and economic segregation has widened educational gaps between rich and poor students, and between White students and students of color. In light of Black history being banned from school

In light of Black history being banned from schools, community education is more important than ever. On this day in 1985, the Philadelphia Police Department dropped a bomb on a residential neighborhood, killing 11 people (including five children) and destroying 61 homes. Despite the severity of this event, it's often overlooked or forgotten, making it crucial that we remember and learn from it to prevent similar tragedies from happening again. That's why we're sharing an article by @ZinnEducationProject that provides insight into the MOVE bombing and its impact.
